7th grade coding class

Coding for Students in Grades 3-8

Students in grades 3 through 8 develop advanced programming skills—skills considered to be essential for their future—to present their work and express their creativity through digital media.

Students in grades 3, 4 and 5 master basic programming skills including: sequential processing, Boolean logic, user experience and troubleshooting. These young programmers learn to create interactive stories, also known as “choose your own adventure” stories, maze games and informative web pages about themselves and their class work.

Students who choose to advance their coding knowledge in grades 6, 7, and 8 are immersed in web development. Students learn HTML5. Through the use of tags, they markup a text document so that web browsers display links, images, and text as they intend. Students then learn to style their pages using CSS3, and create interactivity with JavaScript. Students then learn Python, a powerful all-purpose programming language.
