If the Shoe Fits...
Posted 02/07/2012 09:45AM

Sandals, boots, and sneakers of all sizes were packed snugly into boxes stacked high in the maintenance closet at Tower School. Their final destination? The shoes, nearly 400 pairs in all, will be sent to hospitals, shelters, schools, and orphanages around the globe. The shoe drive has become an annual tradition at Tower, which works in conjunction with the organization Soles4Souls to distribute footwear to those in need. Students also held a fundraiser to help pay for the cost of shipping the shoes.

Tower’s work with Soles4Souls will continue this March, when a group of students, parents, and faculty will travel to Jamaica over spring break. They will spend five days in the areas that are not seen by vacationers as they distribute shoes and clothing to local schools and orphanages. The group had originally planned to travel to an orphanage in Honduras but had to reroute their trip due to the recent rise in security issues there.
