Honoring the Life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Students honored the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., at an all-school assembly on January 13. Presentations ranged from moving—when seventh graders took turns reciting his famous “I Have Dream” speech—to lively—when eighth graders belted out “When the Saints Come Marching In” to a clapping audience. The lessons of Dr. King were visible in the classroom as well. Kindergartners reflected on how they could be more like Dr. King—peaceful, kind, and loving. They completed the sentence “I Have a Dream…” with thoughts such as:
“…that we all will share.”
“…to be kinder to my brother.”
“…to be a teacher and help kids.”
